Is Coconut Water a Regular Part of Your Diet?



Coconut water has become very popular with people who play sports, as a healthy alternative to more popular sugary drinks. The tropical fruit is full of great properties that are good for your overall health. So, is coconut water a regular part of your diet yet?

If you haven’t jumped on the coconut water bandwagon yet, maybe you will after reading this.

Is Coconut Water Good for You?

Coconut water is low in calories, sugars and fat, but it’s rich in vitamins and minerals and some chemicals that are of the good variety. What makes coconut water good for you is that is also contains electrolytes, including potassium. That’s why athletes that don’t want the sugary sports drinks prefer it. Electrolytes are excellent to prevent dehydration and can reduce fatigue, as well as stress.

Even more important than the benefit athletes can find in coconut water, it is a natural blood pressure lowering drink. In 2005, a study found that people who were given coconut water for two weeks had a systolic blood pressure that was 71-percent lower than those drank plain water.

Coconut water is also good for your heart health as it can reduce the chances of having a heart attack, according to another study. It also helps decrease the total cholesterol triglyceride levels and LDL cholesterol, especially the cholesterol found in the heart.

Is Coconut Milk the Same as Coconut Water?

Coconut milk has grown in popularity in recent years, but it is not the same thing as coconut water. The milk has more fat, it’s thicker and has more calories. But drinking coconut milk is also good for you because it’s a good source of magnesium, potassium, calcium, and folate.
